Rainbow International School began in September 1991 as a Primary School with 29 children. In September 1995, the school moved to its present 9-acre site with newly constructed purpose built classrooms and administration block and extensive playing fields. Since then, the student numbers have grown steadily and this has been matched by the physical development of the amenities and the expansion of the curriculum with a full secondary school programme up to A Level now offered. With a fees structure considerably lower than that offered at other international schools in Uganda, Rainbow has been able to attract students from the indigenous population as well as the expatriate community. This gives Rainbow a uniquely inclusive, multicultural and friendly atmosphere. The strength that the school has gained through its excellent reputation both locally and internationally and the resultant large students population (currently around 780 on roll) has led to Rainbow becoming the 'specialist' school in Uganda for offering a British education. In recent years the other international schools, for one reason or another, have changed from the British Curriculum to the IB system with the PYP and MYP for the younger ages. This has left Rainbow International School as the only school in Uganda offering an entirely British education system from kindergarten up to university entrance level. Creating such a niche Rainbow has obviously given itself almost unlimited potential to develop further. With this in mind, a further 12 acres of land adjoining the current site was recently purchased with the intention of constructing full boarding facilities, a modern school hall with stage and music rooms, a second swimming pool and more classrooms and science labaratories for secondary school to meet the demand for places. Clearly with so much extra land there will also be plenty of room for more playing and sports facilities. Clearly Rainbow is a school with an impressive background and a very exciting future! |
