In order to promote a sense of self responsibility amongst students at Rainbow, students are encouraged to take up leadership positions. The student body is governed by a headboy, a headgirl, eight prefects and the student board.
Headboy and Headgirl
At the end of the second term students in Year 12 are invited to apply for the post of headboy or headgirl. Secondary School teachers short-list the applicants and then the student body votes to decide on who becomes the next headboy and headgirl. The headboy and headgirl are introduced to the school community at the end of second term assembly but commence their duties when the Year 12 examination leave is concluded in the third term. In order to be eligible to apply for the position of headboy or headgirl an applicant must have been a full time student at Rainbow for at least 2 years.
Prefects
School prefects will be selected from the sixth form as follows:-
i) At the end of the second term the secondary school teachers select 4 prefects from Year 12 from the unsuccessful headboy and headgirl applicants and any other Year 12 prefect applications. These prefects commence general duties when the Year 12 study leave is concluded in the third term.
ii) At the beginning of the first term 4 more prefects from the new Year 12 are selected by the secondary school teachers from applications submitted thus making a total of 8 prefects, 4 from Year 12 and 4 from Year 13.
Student Board
The Student Board is a student run body consisting of one member of each class from year 6 upwards.
The students in the Student Board meet once a week to discuss issues of concern to the student body as a whole. In order to ensure the meetings are orderly and productive, they are overseen by a member of the secondary school teaching staff.
The Student Board is encouraged to be positive and is not meant to provide an opportunity for general digruntlement. I can do this by making suggestions / constructive criticism to the school administration or organising fundraising events like discos and non-uniform days to collect money to improve the school facilities.
Overall, the Student Board is expected to come up with as many solutions as problems! |
