Key Stage 3 The secondary programme begins in Year 7 (age 11) and during Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9), all students study the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, as well as Art, Design and Technology (up to Year 8) Drama, French or German, Geography, History, Music and Physical Education. There are also lessons in Citizenship and PSHE (Personal Social & Health Education). Cambridge Checkpoint Tests in Mathematics, English and Science are conducted at the end of Year 9. At Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) we offer the Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate in Secondary Education) examinations in Year 11, which are accepted worldwide as entry qualifications into further or higher education, as well as being recognised by employers as school-leaving qualifications.
IGCSE
At IGCSE, English Language, Maths and ICT are compulsory subjects. In addition each student chooses 6 subjects from Accounting, Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Drama, Economics, English Literature, French, Geography, German, History, Music, IGCSE Physical Education, Physics and Sociology. In consultation with the Career’s Advisor, students are encouraged to choose a balanced range of subjects to keep their future options open. The majority of students take First Language English but for those who first language is not English, there is the option of sitting the IGCSE exam in English as a Second Language (ESL). We also offer IGCSE courses in First Language French and German. Throughout Key Stages 3 and 4, we offer extensive language support to ESL students. We also have a strong programme of support for students with learning difficulties, or for those who are physically impaired, through our SEN (Special Educational Needs) department. |
