Rainbow’s Special Educational Needs and English as an Additional Language provision has expanded considerably over the past few years. With a non-selective policy for admitting new students to the school, a number of SEN children are now enrolled at Rainbow.
Children requiring either of these provisions will be given extra personal tuition while being encouraged to integrate with the mainstream class as often as possible. An initial assessment is done by the SEN/EAL departments and a programme tailored to his/her particular need will then be prepared as and when appropriate. Sometimes children’s particular needs will become apparent after the child has already commenced studying at the school. In secondary school this may be as a result of an IGF (Information Gathering Form) generated by the head of section in response to concerns raised by teachers or parents. In such cases an assessment can then be conducted and a special timetable prepared for that child along with an IEP (Individual Education Plan). All SEN and EAL classes take place in purpose built classrooms. |
