Last week of a very long term This Friday is the 70th school day of a term that began 15 weeks ago on 27th August. The final day will start with normal registration followed by class parties and staff V student waterpolo between 10:00 and 11:00a.m. There will be a bell at 11:30a.m for secondary students to go to their form classes for a final tidy up and uniform check (it is not a non-uniform day) before going to the end of term assembly on the main field which will start at 11:45p.m. It should have finished by 12:30p.m when everyone should go home. THERE IS NO SCHOOL LUNCH PROVIDED ON FRIDAY. Before we reach Friday we still have a number of other events to tell you about. Today from 3:30p.m to 5:00p.m there is a sixth form parents evening in the secondary school hall when the end of term reports will be issued. Students are welcome to attend with their parents. Tomorrow we have two major events on the main school field. From 2:00 until 3:00p.m there will be an extended COOL Awards ceremony as we will also be presenting the swimming certificates and work experience certificates. There will be an extended lunchtime until 1:50p.m in secondary school and then a bell for students to go to form classes for a uniform check before making their way to the steps. Then at 6:30p.m there will be a primary Christmas Concert with a mix of skits, music, song and dance. Tickets are available from Lydia at 5000/= for adults and 2000/= for students / children. It was good to see such a large audience for the secondary school production of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ on the main field last Friday evening. The stage, costumes and lighting were superbly prepared and the beautiful weather added to the exotic atmosphere. The acting was also very good. With such a production, perhaps individuals should not be singled out but Christo Swart as Claudio was superb. The work of Mrs. Bisasso, Mr. Howard, Mrs. Wakiro and especially the director Miss Catherine Imalingat should also not be overlooked. At the busiest time of the term, they have dedicated much of their own time to ensure that the final production was so good. As always, the groundstaff and Fred Businge in charge of sound gave invaluable support. Finally the presenters Kuda and Shanice, who did a great job but unfortunately forgot to mention at the end Tomil Fireworks for sponsoring the event. We are, indeed, extremely grateful for your support. On Sunday there was a wonderful party at Colours Club organised by the PSA. It ran for 3 hours with lots of food, music, drink, stalls, a costume parade and, of course, Santa Claus himself. Thank you to all staff and parents who helped on the day or in donating food. Also well done to the Student Board representatives who gave their time so willingly and effectively to assist in organising so many small children. There were actually so many children that we raised almost 1.5million/= from the event which will go towards upgrading Colours Club. Thursday’s secondary school assembly told us all about how to be safe and how important it is to think about safety. Thank you to 8M for giving their brief but effective message. In Friday’s assembly look out for Mr. Chikhu teaching his class again! The CARE committee have been very active this term and, as some reward for their efforts, Quality Chemicals have kindly donated 50 long lasting mosquito nets which they will distribute to various worthy causes. They have also been the driving force behind the Hospice Appeal. Once again we have collected many gifts for their children’s party but it is not too late to donate more. We will be presenting them to Hospice in Friday’s assembly. For our own ‘in house’ charity thank you to those of you who sponsored Mr. Green to complete the Kampala 10K. The 225,000/= raised has been handed to the Student Board to make lockers for Year 7. The CARE committee also had the successful food sales. It managed to raise an amount of about 700,000/= . Part of this money went to the Katwe Youth Development Program, whilst the rest will be used for different activities next term. C.A.R.E Committee. Camping trip Year 12 goes camping. Over the weekend from 29th November to the 1st December, 19 Year 12s went camping at the Hairy Lemon, a tiny island on the Nile. They had a good time playing football, getting creative and acrobatic, trying to play guitar but failing horribly and just chilling. Volleyball in the River Nile and swimming around the island aided by and battling against the currents were some of the other highlights of the trip. Time moved by slowly on the Hairy Lemon and while roasting marshmallows and stargazing most of the Year 12s wished they had more time there Meanwhile Year 13s were enjoying themselves at Lake Mburo with Mr. Fugill, Mr. Blondeau & Ms Muchuchu. On Saturday 29th November the staff team played its first away match of the year and lost 1-0 at ISU due to a debatable penalty award. Rainbow, meanwhile missed a penalty. Last night the senior team played at home to Blackboys FC and won 3-1 with 2 goals from Nemanja and one from Michael Matovu. In view of the unfortunate behaviour of two of our sixth form pupils in the boarding house after the school production last Friday, the Student Board has decided to cancel the end of term Christmas disco. As promised in the last Weekly Rainbow, here is a list of all our current school swimming record holders. Well done to all of them. I am sure they will have plenty of certificates to collect tomorrow afternoon. Boys
Breast stoke Yesterday we welcomed back two members of staff from maternity leave. Mrs Kezia Kimbugwe in primary school is back just in time for the concert after the birth of Naveen and Pross, the reprographics & stores administrator, is back after the birth of Nicholas in October. Meanwhile congratulations are due to the Ssengendos (Merrett and Noah) on the birth of a girl, Mary, on 30th November. We are still in need of your old chipped or cracked plates and mugs and tiles for the mosaic at the pool. Please don’t feel that one chipped mug in the cupboard is insignificant – we need every one. Leave your contribution with Lydia at reception. Thank you. Mrs. Dralega Jonathan Rec L Once again the leadership changed as Rwenzori overtook Kyoga at the top of the housepoints table |
