Happy New Year. As usual we are very much looking forward to the coming term at Rainbow and one & a half weeks into it we are encouraged by the attitude and enthusiasm of the staff and children and how the many new students seem to have settled in. We are also pleased so far with the performance of the new school transport provider, White Lines. With regard to the school bus service, we still have several students using the bus who have not yet returned the signed code of conduct or the rules and regulations form signed by their parents. The bus service obviously has more chance of operating smoothly with cooperation from all parties concerned.
One inevitable consequence of our expanding school population is that the facilities cannot keep pace with growth. With the new secondary school science block now fully functioning, that is no longer the situation with classroom space. Unfortunately, though, we have nowhere to expand the car park at present. We are considering several options to ease the car park congestion including the possibility of staggering the school days of the primary and secondary sections. No solution will happen overnight, though, and we would like to thank you for your patience shown so far during the rush hours at the beginning and end of the day and request that you continue to bear with us while we try to work out a way of solving this problem. With regard to the new science block we would like to take this opportunity to invite all parents of secondary school to a special opening ceremony and cocktail evening at the science block this coming Friday 23rd January from 6:00p.m. That is the first of many major events taking place during what promises to be another very exciting term. A full summary is given below but there are a few important points to note: - World Cup Fun Day has been moved to 14th March. This was to avoid clashing with the KKL League which was due to start on 24th January and end on 7th March. As it turns out KKL have changed their dates again pushing their league back 3 weeks. Realising that it now clashes with World Cup Fun Day they have agreed to make 14th March their ‘rain day.’ This means that, as long as they do not have any matches lost to rain to catch up on, that will be a free weekend in the KKL league.
- Due to the current unstable situation in the Middle East and taking advice from the British High Commission, we have decided to postpone the planned Year 3 & 4 trip to Egypt until next year (a detailed letter of explanation to all parents concerned is enclosed. The children booked for this trip will have priority should the trip be re-scheduled). Whilst the disappointment is highly regrettable our first consideration has to be assuring the safety of our children.
- The Midland swimming gala which is normally held on International Women’s Day has been postponed this year as the 8th March falls on a Sunday. There are also three other interschools galas in March as well as our own Sports Day so a fourth swimming gala would probably have represented just too much sport for one month!
- We would like to draw your attention to a major new event we are hosting on 21st March.
In the past 5 years Rainbow Student Board has organised its own Talent Show for Rainbow students. It has always turned out to be a thoroughly entertaining evening with small prizes awarded. This year we have decided to raise the event to a new level. We have invited Taibah College School, Kampala International School Uganda and International School of Uganda to participate in an International Talent Show to be held on our main field. We are in the process of acquiring significant sponsorship and media coverage to help make this into a spectacular show.
Auditions are taking place over the next month or so to select the outstanding performers to represent each school in the disciplines of music, drama and dance. Therefore, the evening should showcase some of the best performing talent of 11 to 20 year olds in Kampala. If you or your business/organisation would like to partner us in this ambitious project please call one of the oganisers Elisabeth Bisasso, Catherine Imalingat or Lyn Howard at the school.
