Talent Show tickets on sale At last the tickets for the Rainbow International Talent Show on 1st May are on sale. They cost 15,000/= each and can be purchased from Rainbow, KISU or any Orange outlet. Apart from seeing a spectacular show hosted by Navio with around $10,000 being spent on the stage, sound and lighting, the 15000/= will also give you a 5000/= Orange voucher and a raffle ticket for a fabulous draw including prizes of internet USB keys and mobile phones. You have probably seen the posters around town and heard the adverts on the radio. Now make sure your friends are also aware of this fantastic show so they also buy a ticket. We expect a full house of 1200 people on the night. Make sure you are one of them! End of term assembly We saw plenty of the talent that Rainbow has on offer in the assembly on the last day of last term. Well done to Mugabi with his highly original valedictory speech as headboy, to 2N for their food poem and to Ethan Fage, Anna-May Wood & Karabo Rugasira for their very entertaining skit from ‘Year 3s got talent’ called ‘She’s met you before.’ Osman and Kenneth also performed a reprise of their freestyle rap which they had first performed in the special secondary school assembly on Wednesday afternoon. Well done to Ms Rochford and her selection of maths students for their creative and informative assembly about famous mathematicians on Wednesday, 24th March. It was interesting to see music combined with maths so effectively. The following afternoon the COOL awards disclosed that Kyoga was the coolest house in secondary school last term. Well done to everyone who gained an award and you should all start demonstrating the right attributes now if you want to earn a certificate on June 23rd. Early drizzle on the last day of term threatened to disrupt the outstanding events from Sports Day that had not been completed a week earlier. As it turned out the weather cleared and we were able to complete the secondary school high jump, long jump and biathlon as well as the primary class dashes, although they do not provide points for the scoreboard. An error was made in the announcement in the final assembly and it was a lot closer than stated but the winning house remains the same; Rwenzori
Added to the overall scoreboard we start this term as follows: - IGCSE practical exams start on Friday 16th April with the first ICT practical paper. This exam is followed on Monday 19th April by the music practical exam, with French and German orals taking place on Tuesday 20th. On Wednesday 24th March we had 2 very exciting 11-a-side soccer matches on our big field against KISU. Our U12 girls won 2-0 with Emma scoring twice. This was followed by our U12 boys coming back from 3-0 down to level it at 3-3 only to lose 4-3 to a late penalty. Our scorers were Karanja, Ricardo and Mark. On Friday 26th March, after everyone had gone home, the staff team travelled to Taibah and came away with an emphatic 5-1 win. Coach Paul (2), Noah, Fred Businge & Henry scored. On Saturday 3rd April the staff made it a sensational 7 wins in a row when they beat Blackboys 1-0 with a header from Robert deciding the match. In the last week of term a group of children from Years 4 & 5 accompanied by 4 teachers enjoyed a very successful trip to Rome. Highlights included visits to the Coloseum, Vatican City and catacombs, as well as a night out on the town relishing the tastes of Italy – delicious pizza and ice-cream! The trip was a great opportunity for children to enrich their understanding of the importance of Rome, both past and present. A special thank you to Mrs. Kasujja for organising the trip, which was truly a fantastic experience for all.Ms Mayer Just before the holidays Year 3 presented a lively and entertaining variety show that had the audience enthralled. There was a mixture of Indian Dance, music (including beautiful solos) and drama that showed confident command of the stage and great comic timing. One big surprise was an item that was not on the programme; the Year Three staff danced to Congolese Lingala. The audience cheered and clapped as it was an entirely impromptu piece. Thank you Year 3 for a very enlivening and enjoyable evening. Mrs. Dralega There was plenty of interesting news affecting members of the Rainbow Community over the past few weeks. On Tuesday 23rd March Jane Ngyema, the primary school EAL teacher gave birth to a baby girl, Amaris (Ms Tamilla will be covering her during maternity leave) while two secondary school teachers became fathers again in the holiday. Mr. Musau’s daughter born on 27th March is called Shannel and Mr. Nuwamanya’s daughter born on 8th April is called Joella. We also welcome back Ms Webster from the UK where she had a baby boy Oliver Ryan on 19th February. Also during the holiday the financial controller of the school, Mr. Amit Sagar, married Balpreet on Friday, 9th April. Thank you, Amit, for all the celebrations! We also welcome to our full time staff Miski as a Year 3 assistant after she had spent a term as a volunteer in early years. You will see a visitor around the school during the next few days. He is actually on holiday but, as he is also a school inspector in the UK, we thought it would be a good idea for him to come and meet the staff and observe informally what goes on at Rainbow. Thank you, Mr. Anstead for your invaluable input. On Sunday 21st March about 25 runners took part in a 10K race around Muyenga to raise funds for disadvantaged children in the Kikubamutwe slum. There were 3 Rainbow representatives, Gideon (SEN assistant) who came 2nd, Coach Henry who came 3rd and Vincent Barnes who came 7th. Thank you to everyone who donated money or other items to the Bududa Appeal. As Irene & Olvanus explained in the end of term assembly 211,700/= (including 124,500/= from ‘wet the student’) was raised as well as all those boxes full of clothes and other items. |
