Clubs notice Clubs in secondary school will start week commencing 26th April and will run for seven weeks, up till week ending Friday June 11th, by which time students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 will be busy preparing for their end of year exams. A list of available clubs will be circulated later in the week. Mr. Toscano Questionnaires All parents and guardians of secondary students should have received a questionnaire towards the end of last term. Many thanks to those who took the time to complete it but if you have not done so please take a few minutes to fill it in and return it to us. We really do value your comments and feedback. Cambridge Checkpoint tests for Year 9 will take place over three days, starting on Monday 3rd May. The tests will involve students sitting two papers in each of Maths, Science and English. Between their tests, students will follow their normal lesson timetable and will start and finish school at the usual times. DVDs of the Year 3 production are available on order. Year 3 parents will have received an order form, but if anyone else would like a copy, please ask Mr. Kawuma for a slip. Please ensure you have the correct uniform each day. Last term I noticed a real improvement in the number of children wearing the correct sweater on chilly days. We still have a MOUNTAIN of lost sweaters in the KS1 lost property basket. Labelling will not guarantee lost sweaters will be found, but it certainly helps! This Thursday from 4:00 – 5:30p.m. we will be holding our secondary school Options Evening in the secondary school hall. Year 9s should attend with parents as you will receive very useful guidance as you make the very important decision of which subjects to choose at IGCSE. For Year 11 students you will find out about ‘A’ level options at Rainbow but also about other options should you decide to study elsewhere. Last Friday and Saturday the IGCSE ICT practicals began. They will be concluded this Friday and Saturday. This week we also have practical IGCSE exams in music (today), German & French orals (tomorrow), Arabic & Chinese orals (Wednesday) drama (Wednesday) and PE throughout Thursday morning. This Thursday, 22nd April, some KIBO students will be doing a fundraising car wash in the Rainbow car park. It will cost 5000/= to have your car washed and all money raised will go to Missionaries of the Poor Good Shepherd Home in Kisenyi which offers shelter and education for around 250 vulnerable people including orphans, refugees, street children and AIDS victims. Staff or students who would like their car washed should give their name to Irene or John Olvanus of the CARE committee before Thursday. From 4:00 until 6:00p.m. on the same day during Options Evening parents can also have their cars washed for 5000/=. If you simply wish to make a donation to this good cause there will be a box placed in the reception area on Thursday and Friday. Every morning this week except for Fridays Year 6 are going to be doing their practice tests. They require silence in that area which means no children should be sent to the EAL room or Rainbow room unaccompanied during those times. It also means that the venue for the class and staff photos that are taking place today and tomorrow will be under the covered area at the front of the school. This term we welcome a new school nurse, Anne who has replaced Annette. We also welcome Miss Rachel Sloan from Queens University, Belfast, who is carrying out 3 weeks of teaching practice in our secondary school mathematics department. There is going to be an inter-house karaoke competition starting next week. The 4 houses must prepare one act each. Acts can range from singing to rapping and houses can use as many members as they want. The bulk of the songs must be in English but minor parts in other languages are allowed. There will be house meetings today in the English rooms (in normal order of houses) at 1:10. All houses must decide what song they are performing and who is performing for their houses and submit this to Mugabi, Moussa or Linda by Tuesday latest. We will give the houses this week to prepare their acts. If you can sing or rap join your house. The winners shall earn a multitude of merits and bragging rights as the winners of the 1st ever inter-house karaoke competition. Mugabi In the last week of term 2, Years 7 and 8 students took part in a Languages competition. They were given a sudoku grid each to complete in either French or German. This was a special sudoku. Unlike the usual sudoku grid where the numbers 1 to 9 are to be placed in the grid, the students were to fit nine French or German words related to Easter in the grid. The students were to make a joint effort as a form to submit as many completed sudoku grids as possible. During last Thursday’s assembly the winning forms 7WM and 8K were awarded their prize: a box of Easter chocolates. Well done to them for their team effort! Bravo! Ms Grignard A late headed goal by Joseph Mpora gave the staff a 1-1 draw against Kansanga FC on Friday thus preserving an unbeaten record going back 8 games and 2 months. It’s less than 2 weeks until Rainbow’s big show. Get your tickets now from Lydia or any Orange outlet. Remember your ticket includes a 5000/= Orange voucher and free entry to a fantastic raffle. Today, all the Rainbow representatives in the show will be going to make a CD of their performances at a recording studio in town. Please can students that have paid for lunch bring in a photo for their meal card. Without a photo they cannot get their meal card. They can come and get a slip but they are only allowed 2 slips per term. Any problems they are to come and see me, Myf (PRO). Very few housepoints or merits were collected this week so the scoreboard is almost unchanged. |
