We hope that you had a pleasant break with your children and that you are all now firmly back in the school routine for the third and final term of academic year 2009/2010. All the staff and children were uplifted to return to newly tiled classrooms throughout secondary school and half of primary school. It was only a shortage of time that prevented the Key Stage 1 and Early Years blocks also having brand new floors. The tiles are all in store and the job should be finished at half term. It is a relatively short term but full of very important events. A calendar of key dates is given overleaf. Of course, for students in years 11, 12 and 13, this term is probably most significant because of the exams that they will be sitting. However, all other classes from year 2 upwards will also be having some form of end of year assessment. We hope that they will all do their best by preparing well. It is always important that the effort is put in throughout the term and not left to a few days before the tests or exams begin. While expecting a lot of hard work to take place in the classroom, it is also important to continue to offer all the other opportunities for our children to excel as we always try to do at Rainbow. In ten days time there will be a chance for some of our students to show off their performing talents when we hold the Rainbow International Talent Show on our main field. Our sponsors, Orange, have organised a huge advertising campaign on the radio and today your child will bring home one of 500 posters that have been produced. We would request that you display this poster somewhere prominently to help to ensure that we sell the 1200 tickets available for the show on 1st May. We also hope that many parents and other family members will attend. Later in the term there is also to be another school production when the year 6 classes will say farewell to primary school with a performance of ‘Julius Caesar’. There are three major sporting events to look forward to with two international schools athletics meets and the Midland swimming gala on Martyr’s Day (3rd June). We also hope to organise a rugby tour to Kenya in the middle of June if there are a sufficient number of children interested. The first major occasion of the term takes place tomorrow (Thursday) evening from 4.00 to 5.30 p.m. when we hold our annual Options Evening when students of year 9 and year 11 (along with their parents) can find out about what Rainbow has to offer in terms of IGCSE and A level options. The careers staff will also be available to give valuable advice and guidance. Later in the term the year 9 students will be required to make their choices of which subjects to study in years 10 and 11. Also during tomorrow a local youth training organisation called KIBO is carrying out a charity car wash in the school car park from 4.00 until 6.00 p.m. So, if you wish to have your car washed while you are attending the Options Evening, you can do so for just 5000/= with all money raised going to the Missionaries of the Poor Good Shepherd Home, Kisenyi. We hope that you will support this initiative organised by young people trying to make a difference to their community. Let me take this opportunity to wish you and your children a successful term and thank you for your continued support. Yours faithfully, CLIFF GREEN. Principal.
