Rwenzori are Karaoke Champions We had a great week of lunchtime entertainment last week as the secondary school karaoke competition finally took off. In the end it was Shamim & Yvonne from Rwenzori who beat Mugabi and his ‘Ssesse girls’ in a sing-off on Thursday. Mugabi’s voice has been compared to Jay Sean according to Mugabi. The judges of Mr. Urquhart, Mr. Toscano and Mr. Green decided that Kyoga were third and Impala 4th. On Wednesday we also had some excellent rapping performances from Jonathan Ssajjabbi, Mudebo Mukweli, Osman Garelnabi, Wasajja Walugembe, Jovin Ssali and Martin Taremwa. The week’s entertainment provided a perfect build up to the Talent Show on Saturday evening. A full report on that will be in next week’s Weekly Rainbow. Rugby Tour At the moment the rugby tour to Kenya in June is in some doubt due to a lack of students signed up. We are now extending the deadline until 3:00p.m. tomorrow, 4th May. Please pay your 100,000/= deposit before then if you wish to participate. If the trip has to be cancelled deposits will be refunded. The Year 6 waterpolo league kicked off last week with 4 matches being played. In the first match, Ssesse overcame Rwenzori by 2 goals to nil. The goal scorers were Vincent and Yann. The second match saw Impala beat Kyoga by 4 goals to 2 thanks to a hatrick (3 goals) from Paul and a goal from Ceasar. Kyoga responded through Kaleb and Leo. Unfortunately, the third match between Ssesse and Kyoga was called off after Kyoga failed to field a minimum of 6 players. This meant that Ssesse earned 3 points and 2 goals without having to work hard for them. It was very disappointing and frustrating for the few Kyoga players who turned up but were let down by their team mates who did not turn up. It is important that once you have committed to playing for your house by registering, you make sure you turn up for all your matches. In the last match of the week a very high scoring and thrilling encounter, Impala beat Rwenzori by 10 goals to 7. Paul scored 4, Martin 3 (hatrick), Abdul (1) and Daniel (1) for Impala. While Rwenzori responded through Mateo 2, Aroura 1, Ricardo 2 and Charis 2. Football 24th April All those who are interested in representing the school at the ISU Athletics Meet in June should come for training on Wednesdays on the main field from 3 – 4p.m.PE Department All of Year 12 & 13 and some of the Year 11 students have begun their study leave today in preparation for the Cambridge exams commencing Tuesday 11th May. Tomorrow the A level French oral exams are taking place in room 23. Today, tomorrow and Wednesday the Year 9 Checkpoint exams are taking place in rooms 33, 34 & 35. Several students have already completed some parts of their final exams. Last Thursday the IGCSE & A Level Music and Drama students had their performances recorded in front of an audience to be submitted to CIE and on Thursday the IGCSE PE students had their final assessment committed to DVD to be sent to the exam moderators. All the IT practical exams are now complete following the AS/A level exam on Friday. On Friday we said goodbye to our IT technician Henry Mugerwa but today we welcome Henry Mokoena into the department as an IT assistant. Henry had previously been assisting in the PE department as a volunteer. Mrs. Dralega is in the UK until Wednesday but Ms Mayer has plenty to report. In case you come across any monkeys on the school compound, you should not go near them, try to feed them or run after them. Remember, they are wild animals so it is best to stay away from them. Mr. Jasansky gathered together a group of students from his German classes to give a presentation on famous German poets which included biographies of the poet and recitations of their work. Well done to the students for bringing the language to life and for the large number who participated. Hopefully you have all made your final choice for clubs this term. The following clubs were omitted from the last edition of Weekly Rainbow. This Thursday 40 children from KS2 will be going to ISU to participate in the annual choir festival. It is a fun event and not a competition. We are sure all our students will represent Rainbow with excellent behaviour and wonderful voices! I would like to congratulate next year’s Editor in Chief of ‘The Zone’, Gayathry Venugopal on attaining this new position. I fully believe that she along with the editorial team (anyone who wants to join next year contact Gayathry) will do a great job with the newspaper and more and better issues of ‘The Zone.’ The final issue of ‘The Zone’ which is bigger and better than before shall be coming out soon so watch this space ..….
