Rwenzori are Karaoke Champions

We had a great week of lunchtime entertainment last week as the secondary school karaoke competition finally took off.  In the end it was Shamim & Yvonne from Rwenzori who beat Mugabi and his ‘Ssesse girls’ in a sing-off on Thursday.   Mugabi’s voice has been compared to Jay Sean according to Mugabi.  The judges of Mr. Urquhart, Mr. Toscano and Mr. Green decided that Kyoga were third and Impala 4th.  On Wednesday we also had some excellent rapping performances from Jonathan Ssajjabbi, Mudebo Mukweli, Osman Garelnabi, Wasajja Walugembe, Jovin Ssali and Martin Taremwa.  The week’s entertainment provided a perfect build up to the Talent Show on Saturday evening.  A full report on that will be in next week’s Weekly Rainbow.

Rugby Tour

At the moment the rugby tour to Kenya in June is in some doubt due to a lack of students signed up.  We are now extending the deadline until 3:00p.m. tomorrow, 4th May.  Please pay your 100,000/= deposit before then if you wish to participate.  If the trip has to be cancelled deposits will be refunded.

Waterpolo competition starts

The Year 6 waterpolo league kicked off last week with 4 matches being played.  In the first match, Ssesse overcame Rwenzori by 2 goals to nil.  The goal scorers were Vincent and Yann.  The second match saw Impala beat Kyoga by 4 goals to 2 thanks to a hatrick (3 goals) from Paul and a goal from Ceasar.  Kyoga responded through Kaleb and Leo.  Unfortunately, the third match between Ssesse and Kyoga was called off after Kyoga failed to field a minimum of 6 players.  This meant that Ssesse earned 3 points and 2 goals without having to work hard for them.  It was very disappointing and frustrating for the few Kyoga players who turned up but were let down by their team mates who did not turn up.  It is important that once you have committed to playing for your house by registering, you make sure you turn up for all your matches.   In the last match of the week a very high scoring and thrilling encounter, Impala beat Rwenzori by 10 goals to 7.  Paul scored 4, Martin 3   (hatrick), Abdul (1) and Daniel (1) for Impala.  While Rwenzori responded through Mateo 2, Aroura 1, Ricardo 2 and Charis 2.

Primary Assemblies

Mrs. Dralega is in the UK until Wednesday but Ms Mayer has plenty to report.
A BIG thank you to 1W for a very interesting assembly on Brazil this week.  We all learnt so much about Brazil from what each child had to say.  When Mrs. Dralega quizzed the audience afterwards, it was astounding how much they remembered which proved how closely they had listened.  Well done!
In the Key Stage 2 assembly 5O gave a wonderful performance highlighting the importance of fairness.  While we were all clear about what was unfair in the skit, it certainly made us question why it was unfair and what a fairer outcome would have been.  Thank you very much 5O for such a well presented and thought provoking assembly.

Monkeys

In case you come across any monkeys on the school compound, you should not go near them, try to feed them or run after them.  Remember, they are wild animals so it is best to stay away from them.

Secondary School Assembly

Mr. Jasansky gathered together a group of students from his German classes to give a presentation on famous German poets which included biographies of the poet and recitations of their work.  Well done to the students for bringing the language to life and for the large number who participated.
