Rainbow win athletics again On a glorious sunny morning at ISU last Saturday, 12th June, it became almost a procession of first places for Rainbow especially in the concluding relays in which we had a 100% winning record. So, once again, Rainbow brought home the cup that we have held in our trophy cabinet for 6 of the past 7 years. Well done to all our athletes and to the PE staff for ensuring we finished off our sporting year in style. Final results: The International Food Fair. This event was a trermendous success, not financially, but from the point of view of bringing people in and parent participation. We had tables representing Netherlands, Belgium, Serbia, Uganda, Cameroon and Senegal, China, Ghana, USA, Australia, UK and India and the boarding students had one of the most financially successful stalls representing Argentina. The prize winners of the day were Ghana for the best-dressed people (Mr. and Mrs. Gallagher) ; India for the most popular stall (too many people to mention!) and Serbia for the best-presented stall (Mrs. Kostic and daughter, Jana) Luke Gallagher and Hannah Campbell won the drawing competition and Sula (Mrs. Kotecha's driver) won the wonderful food hamper. Meanwhile Mr. Green gave away lots of prizes with his World Cup trivia quiz and raised more money for the PSA with his predictions competition. It was a memorable day with families having fun and one that could be repeated next year by the next committee. Thanks again to all those stallholders who volunteered the food and their time. Anne Thomas Chairperson of the PSA 2009/10 LAMDA Examinations are now completed at Rainbow. The Examiner, Miss Norma Redfearn was very impressed with the school and all the students and thoroughly enjoyed her three days examining here. It is some time since we had a non-uniform day. That is to be corrected this Wednesday when the whole school has the opportunity to come to school in ‘Spots & Stripes’ at a minimum cost of 1000/=. Money raised will go to various causes. The Student Board are to have a special meeting at lunchtime today in the common room to decide what the secondary school money raised is to go towards. Wednesday will also be the day for class parties in primary school. Thank you to former student Mark Karamira who attended Rainbow from 2000 (Year 9) to 2005 (Year 13) as he came back on Monday to make all his former teachers so proud with an articulate, sincere and inspirational speech at the Leavers’ Ceremony on Monday. Well done also to all the teachers, grounds staff, caterers, Fred for the sound system and to the students who performed in the beautiful ceremony. The Year 7 to 10 exams may have ended on Friday but there is still plenty going on in the last week of term, not least the receiving of the exam results and the end of term reports. As always at the end of the year we are saying goodbye to a number of pupils and staff. To all pupils who are leaving, we say best wishes and good luck in your new school wherever you might be. For all our teachers who are leaving the message is much the same as well as thank you for your contribution to Rainbow no matter how long or short your stay with us was. Some of the longer serving members of staff who are leaving will be recognised specially in the end of year assembly on Thursday. On Thursday secondary school and Years 5 & 6 had a presentation from the PRO Kisaakaate Susan Nalwoga telling us about a summer youth camp. Those students intending to participate in the Youth Camp (Ekisaakaate) scheduled from 27th July to 3rd August 2010, please contact either Mrs. Walugembe, Mrs. Green or Rispa Hatibu (Year 10) for registration forms. “Ekisaakaate” is under patronage of her Royal Highness, the Queen of Buganda (Lady Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda). She will be officially launching the “Ekisaakaate” for international students on Thursday at the Rainbow Club starting at 5:00p.m. A big thank you to all students who took part in last week’s white-water rafting expedition in Jinja. As well as being brave enough to take part, their behaviour was superb and they were an absolute credit to the school. They all came back to Kampala sore, tired and soaked to the skin but would recommend it to anyone else. Roll on next year! Mr. Fugill A blanket of cloud settled over Kampala on Friday morning depositing a steady drizzle on our school. For the benefit of the spectators as much as the participants, the Big Splash was moved to the afternoon. It proved to be an inspired move as the early years and Year 1 children had a great conclusion to the week demonstrating their water skills ranging from making a merry-go-round in the small pool to picking up sinking objects to swimming a width of the big pool unaided. Every single one of them made a very big splash before collecting their medals and going home for a long rest. Thanks to the primary swimming and PE department for another lovely event. This year the learning support department registered its largest number of IGCSE students! This is an incredible achievement for our year 11 learning support students. Our trip to Entebbe was to bid them farewell, wish them the best of luck as they step into the World, and for us to get together for some fun and great learning! We had a smooth ride to Entebbe and immediately began the educational tour to learn about Uganda’s magnificent wildlife! Our highly experienced and knowledgeable tour guide, Mr. Kakeeto, gave us the privilege of touring the park and learning about the amazing variety of animals in Uganda. Many animals had been rescued, like the crocodile (which had previously killed five people), or gifted to Uganda, like the white rhinos: Sherino and Kabira from Kenya, or brought from National Parks, like the giraffes from Kidepo National Park. Did you know that Uganda is one of the countries with the largest variety of bird species in the world? This is to congratulate everyone for having come through 2009/2010 academic year. A big thank you to the student body, teachers, administration and parents for working together for the good of the Rainbow community. We wish you a lovely summer holiday. See you next academic year 2010/2011. Last week 3 different primary school classes went on educational trips. This followed Year 1 going to Kajjansi air strip and Entebbe sailing club on Friday, 11th June. Ambrosoli 5 Rainbow 3 We have 3 people signed up for the Chinese classes starting next week at Rainbow. AIESEC are willing to run the classes with such a small number. Obviously they would like more ‘students’, though so please pay 250,000/= in the accounts office this week if you wish to learn about the Chinese language and culture for 5 weeks. Remember this course is open to adults and children. Kindergarten would like to thank Mrs. Ruth Hyde for her generous donation of soft toys, puppets, playdough cutters and 2 large tubs. Thank you very much. First of all we would like to thank all the art students in secondary school who have continued to produce some excellent work throughout this academic year. However, special mention must go to all those students whose work was chosen as Artwork of the week. And for all your effort you will receive a certificate of recognition. Once again, thank you.Mr. Ufoyuru & Mr. Mujunga On Thursday I visited about half of our Year 12 students at various work places around the city. In most cases I was very impressed with the performance of our students as were their supervisors. One of the students gave me a detailed guided tour of Britania factory whilst another is single handedly running the reception at KPMG! This week Mrs. Bisasso and Mr. Fugill will be visiting the rest of the students. Mr. Green … and finally, there were very few housepoints submitted last week so we will collect two weeks of housepoints together for the final scoreboard on Thursday. |
