Year 13 camping trip

Last weekend, the Year 13s went on their camping trip to Lakeside Adventure Park.  The trip began with a short 30 minute boat ride and as soon as we pulled into shore, the first thing most people noticed was a cozy little hammock.  From then on, till the end of the trip, intense cutthroat competition for the hammock prevailed.  On the first day, everyone took part in a rope climbing adventure course.  Some were cool in the face of danger, while others wept for their mothers.  Later, 12 of us were brave enough to take on the higher level course, out of whom a whopping 10 were successful in finishing it.  The weekend was made complete with interesting team building activities, stints at finishing a campfire and more.  All in all, it was a trip never to be forgotten.  A special thank you to Mrs. Banerji and Mr. Matovu for accompanying us. Year 13 Campers.

Assemblies

In Secondary School  - The assembly was on Thursday 1st December, which was World Aids Day. A group of Year 12 students gave us a presentation on the current crisis affecting Uganda, where 6.5% of the adult population are HIV positive. The message was a very worrying one; whilst the rate of HIV infection worldwide is falling, in Uganda the infection rate has started rising again. The assembly featured interviews with Yashwanth Suresh and Claudia Nietsch, who gave moving accounts of their Work Experience in a hospice, where they worked with terminally ill patients, some of whom had AIDS. Congratulations to Joy, Meki, Lucie, Neeha, Vincent, Timothy, Srijana and Parin for a great presentation.

In Primary School  - It was French assembly on Friday and 5MK gave a lively and interesting presentation on France. It included the surprising information that there are 7000 café’s in Paris alone. This information was followed by a tray balancing competition. There was more rivalry between footballers from said country, with Thierry Henry emerging the speediest!  The previous day 1N reminded

On Thursday lunchtime, Habitat for Humanity is holding a karaoke session and dance off which will take place in the old hall / drama rooms.  Entrance will be 1500/=.  If you would like to take part, please let Samantha, Janet, Jawdat, Gayathry or Ms Imalingat know by Wednesday lunchtime.

To finish off the week, an end of term disco will take place on Friday from 7pm to 10:30p.m.  You can buy tickets for the disco earlier in the week for 5000/= from your Student Board us that we are entering the Christmas season. The children also reminded us that this is a good time to think of those less fortunate. Remember this is the last week to bring in your gifts for the hospice and the Nnabakeraka’s Christmas box appeal. Gifts may contain clothing, toys, books, toiletries or sweets. Please do not include liquids or glass items. Parcels should be labeled with the age the gift is suitable for and specify boy or girl. Hand your gifts to Lydia in reception please.

Year 3 attended assembly looking very different on Friday because it was Tudor Day. They were visited by Henry VIII, who managed to do away with one wife and marry another in a very short spell!

It was good to meet parents at the parent workshop on Tuesday. The workshop was about how maths is taught from reception to year 3. We ran short of time to explore some calculating methods, so a handout will be sent home this week to tie up some of the loose ends. Thank you to those who attended. It was a lovely informal atmosphere with lots of laughter and a few ‘ah ha!’ moments. Mrs. Dralega

Mr. Colley
