Secondary Newsletter - March 2010 |
The aim of this newsletter is to support the regular information circulated through the Weekly Rainbow and give you an overview of some of the recent events and developments in the secondary school. In addition to secondary students, this newsletter has also been sent to Year 6 parents, who we hope are intending to bring their children to Secondary next year. This has been an extremely busy term in many different ways but much of our focus has been on preparing students in Years 11, 12 and 13 for their forthcoming Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A level examinations. Years 12 and 13 have just received the results of their mock examinations. Overall, the results were encouraging; a significant number of students achieved A grades in two or more subjects, whilst there were only a few individuals with U grades. For those who achieved highly, the main message is to guard against complacency and keep working, whilst for those at the other end there is still time to effect an improvement but this will require an urgent effort, as time is fast running out.

Sports Day to go to last day drama
Because of the heavy overnight and early morning rain, Friday’s Sports Day started about 2½ hours late after rearranged house meetings at 10:30a.m. It meant that there was not enough time for the secondary school high jump and long jump and biathlon to take place nor the primary school class dashes. There was still time for the usual spectacular fun and excitement that Rainbow’s Sports Day always seems to bring. At 3:15 the action came to an end with Rwenzori taking the cannon relay and when the noise had died down Mr. Toscano announced Impala as the winners of the first ever Sports Day Spirit Cup. With these scores added to the overall scoreboard including all the points from events on Tuesday and Thursday, Rwenzori’s lead is pinned back to just 6 points with the outstanding events to be completed on the last day of term.
